A tithi can be running at two sunrises. Ekadashi is the case: smarta calendars keep the earlier day and vaishnava ones the later.

A short tithi can begin after one sunrise and end before the next, so no day carries it. Most published tables keep the day it began.

Only Karthikai, Maargazhi and Thai are short enough for this, about one year in three hundred. Left as the first, that year simply has no date.

Varalakshmi Vratam is the Friday before Shravana Purnima. In the years the Purnima is itself a Friday the two answers are a week apart, and both are published.

Sunrise is an instant, not a window, so there is nothing to share. Choose Purvahna or later to use this.

Preferred is a ranking — the earlier chip wins. Never rules a day out only when there is no moment of it free of them, so a nakshatra that gives way inside the window does not disqualify the day.

A sankranti is a day the Sun changes sign in. An eclipse counts from first to last contact, and a penumbral one is not counted at all — it casts no shadow anybody can see, and no observance is suspended for one. Whether an eclipse is visible from here is not asked: for a solar eclipse that needs local circumstances this project does not compute, so the veto is on the eclipse happening. If every candidate day is ruled out, the rule keeps its date and flags it rather than producing none.

The same tithi and fortnight in another month, tried only in a year the months above it produced nothing.
